The AI for Safer Children initiative aims to explore the positive potential of AI to support law enforcement agencies to prevent, detect and prosecute child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project aims to tackle this issue through the continued development of its AI for Safer Children Global Hub – a unique, online platform where law enforcement officers can access a repository of information on 80 AI tools that are available to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. The Global Hub also allows law enforcement officers to communicate with each other and learn how to implement and use AI tools responsibly within their workflow. To further distribute the Global Hub’s information and resources, the AI for Safer Children initiative is also offering free online and in-person training to advance the capacities of law enforcement agencies across the globe.

The CTED Knowledge Assistant is the UN Secretariat’s first AI chatbot in production, developed by the Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED) in collaboration with OICT, based on Microsoft Copilot Studio and the Microsoft Power Platform. The tool leverages generative AI to provide instant, context-aware responses by drawing on over 20 years of CTED’s institutional knowledge.
The primary objective of the activity is to strengthen CTED’s capacity to manage and utilize its knowledge resources more effectively. The assistant automates routine tasks such as information retrieval, summarization, and drafting, while standardizing outputs and accelerating internal workflows. Developed in alignment with the UN’s AI governance framework, it integrates robust safeguards for ethical use, data privacy, and human oversight, while advancing AI capacity and innovation across the UN Secretariat.
This AI-powered solution will streamline access to operational guidance from the UN Policy and Practice Database, the UN Knowledge Gateway by enabling users to ask natural language questions and receive relevant responses with source references, improving efficiency for thousands of global users. The initiative aims to simplify knowledge retrieval, enhance user experience, and optimize information management within the UN’s knowledge framework.
