Activities by UNICEF

UNICEF
Development of a geospatial dashboard and national data system to map access and quality of health services across Indonesia.
Asia and the Pacific Indonesia

The platform integrates spatial and non-spatial datasets to visualize disparities in health service access and inform health planning and resource allocation. A machine learning model is used to estimate travel times to the nearest health facility, enabling more accurate estimation of real-world travel times compared to conventional static routing.

AI4D Research Bank
Global Not Applicable

The AI4D Research Bank will leverage various geospatial analytic solutions to help fill in and augment data gaps, scaling poverty estimation efforts and air quality exploratory research, while promoting open science by giving other data scientists access to datasets and machine learning model training references. The resulting web app is designed for both data scientists and program staff, and will offer a Data Catalogue, a Model Catalogue, and API Functionality to ensure replicability. Funding for this initiative is made possible through the UNICEF Venture Fund, Office of Innovation.

The Responsible Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence for Children
Global United States

Implemented by UNICRI with support from the Walt Disney Company, this project aims to enhance AI literacy and digital resilience among young people and their caregivers. It focuses on equipping children aged 13–17 and their parents with the skills and tools to safely and consciously navigate the opportunities and risks associated with generative AI technologies. Key 2025 activities include the production of a short educational video for adolescents and a factsheet for parents and caregivers offering guidance on how to support children’s responsible use of generative AI.
