UNITAR hosted a high-level AI Strategy Masterclass on 24–25 October 2024 at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, bringing together 20 policymakers and diplomats from 18 countries to explore how artificial intelligence can drive sustainable development and global impact. The two-day event focused on developing national AI strategies, addressing the digital divide, and aligning innovation with the UN’s Pact for the Future, emphasizing the importance of ethical, inclusive, and forward-looking approaches to AI governance.

The course breaks down complex concepts about AI through interactive exercises, where users will identify and engage with practical examples of AI use that are problematic from a human rights perspective. The course is translated into 20 languages including Bosnian, Catalan, Polish and Italian.

These trainings allow DMD to support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and support the reskilling and upskilling of diplomats and UN personnel to adapt to the future of work and become empowered and informed global decision-makers.
